The Synthetic Biologist will be responsible for enabling Quercus with the essential molecular capabilities supporting its aspirations to build leading innovative crop protection solutions. Leveraging our strategic relationship with innovative AI protein design partner Ordaos, Quercus is building a new generation of bespoke protein crop protectants. The Synthetic Biologist will be responsible for supporting this effort with best in class capabilities for target proteins, and active, production via synthesis and/ or expression leveraging internal and external resources. The Synthetic Biologist will work with the lead plant scientist and executive team to implement strategies that deliver maximum efficiency in both time and cost to core elements of our technical plants. The biologist will work with external CRO providers to execute Quercus plans and deliver against our objectives in the most efficient manner possible. This role will be based out of the Greater Madison, WI area.
· Build and deliver leading edge synthetic biology capabilities to meet Quercus business objectives
· Identify key technology and process constraints and build and execute plans to address
· Innovate on core enabling technologies to position Quercus for long term success.
· An MS or Ph.D. degree in molecular biology or biochemistry with an emphasis in technologies relevant to synthetic biology.
· At least 2 years of work experience in the area of synthetic biology is required. Work experience in industry is highly preferred.
· A track record of scientific productivity as an individual contributor as evidenced by peer reviewed publications or published patent applications, ideally both.
· The ability to work successfully in teams with diverse scientists within and outside the business.
· Expert in contemporary molecular biology technique.
· Experienced in multiple systems for small scale production of recombinant protein.
· Comfortable operating as an individual contributor, as part of a team, and as a small team leader.
· Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment of changing objectives and with significant degree of independence.
· Profoundly curious, with a learning disposition.
